WRITING MANUALS

Improving Quality

There are many elements to consider in improving the quality of products, operations or businesses. However the main factors are all about the activities of people.

Employees need to do the right job and do it the right way. To do this they need information about what to do. They need the right information presented in the right way and at the right time. Then they can do the right job - resulting in better quality.

Analysing requirements, designing information, writing instructions is part of TACTICS’ expertise. And we have been steadily improving the quality of what we do for over 20 years.

How we have helped some of our clients

Example

A large gas separation plant wanted to reduce risk in maintenance activities as well as be able to use technicians with less experience in the plant to do maintenance tasks. Management identified inadequate line identification as a major obstacle and wanted a comprehensive, systematic line coding system.

What we have done

TACTICS developed a system using a simple combination of colours, symbols and numbers that showed on each line:

  • to and from equipment tags
  • direction of flow
  • contents of the line, and
  • P&ID line number

This easily recognisable system uniquely identified each line in the plant without needing to refer to drawings and significantly reduces the risk of maintenance technicians wrongly identifying a line.
